Torah portion Nitzavim  Deuteronomy 29:9-30:20

Nitzavim is Hebrew for "standing."

Summary of Nitzavim: Moses is addressing the entire society, from the wealthiest to the humblest, adults, children, and even the sojourners, telling them that all of us are part of the covenant with YHVH.  YHVH will be our G-d, just as he established with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.  We are not to follow after the pagan gods.  If we do, then our land will be destroyed like Sodom and Gomorrah, and people will understand that it was because we abandoned YHVH.  The secrets of the universe belong to YHVH, but what has been revealed belongs to us.  Even if we failed and are dispersed, there is redemption and we can return, and the curses will befall our enemies.  The commandments are not so remote that they are inaccessible, but as close as our own breath. We have been offered life and death, blessings and curses, with the admonition that we are to choose life, so that we may declare our love for YHVH and live in the Promised Land,
