Tetzaveh Exodus 27:20 – 30:10

Tetzavah is Hebrew for "You will command".  Here is the context, Ex 27:20  (note: G-d is speaking to Moses): “And You – you will command the Children of Israel and they will take to you pure olive oil beaten for the light, to cause the lighting of the lamp continually.”

Summary:  The instructions for making the holy items for the Tabernacle continue.  These include: beaten olive oil for the Menorah (the 7-branched candelabrum), and service garments for the priests (Aaron and his sons). The oracular devices called Urim and Thummim are to sit behind the high priest's breastplate.  The Torah covers how to sanctify a priest in order to have him serve God, including washing and dressing the priest, and sacrificing animals and bread.  In addition to the altar for animal sacrifice, there is to be an altar for burning incense, upon which Aaron will do an annual atonement.
